What exactly does a grant entail?
A sedum roof subsidy is a financial contribution from the City of Rotterdam to encourage homeowners and businesses to install a green roof. This subsidy helps cover part of the cost, making it affordable for more people to green their roofs.
The municipality of Rotterdam offers a maximum of €10 per m²
Conditions to get green roof subsidy in Rotterdam from 2026
- The roof must be at least 20 m². (This can also be with neighbors).
- The plants on the roof must collect at least 30 liters of rainwater per m² (All packages we sell comply with this).
- It is smart to build your roof yourself. That way you will be the cheapest.

Apply for a grant
Apply for the subsidy through the subsidy page of the municipality of Rotterdam. Do this 8 weeks before you start installing a green roof.

Frequently Asked Questions
We assume that if two adults can stand on the roof, the roof is strong enough for our lightweight system, this system weighs only 45 kg/m2 saturated and is therefore suitable for almost all roofs around the house. However, this is not a guarantee. If you want to be sure, we recommend hiring a structural engineer to have the roof inspected.

After delivery, you can store the sedum mats rolled up for up to two days in cold weather. In warm weather, a maximum of one day. It is important to store sedum mats in a cool, dry place, directly out of the sun. You can also temporarily unroll and water the mats if you can’t handle them right away.
